Our 2021 Summer Reading Program is here!

Tails & Tales is the theme for this year’s festivities and the inspiration behind all of our summer reading
events and activities. All events start at 11am and run for approximately 45 minutes.

KIDS PROGRAMS

July 6th – Virtual Ocean Animal Experience with the Erie Zoo
Bring the Erie Zoo to your home! The staff at the Erie Zoo will present an exciting, engaging, and
educational virtual experience that will teach you about ocean animals. Links to the virtual presentation
will be shared on the library website and on all of our social media.

July 13th – Reptile Encounter with the Audubon Community Nature Center
Our next animal adventure brings you to the great outdoors of the library. Trained staff from the
Audubon will introduce you to some of the amphibians and reptiles that call the Nature Center “home”.
This special event will be available at two times: 11-11:45am or 1-1:45pm.
July 20th – Dog Control Officer and Canine Companion
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a dog control officer? Come to the library and meet local
dog control officer Beth Moss and her canine companion. She will explain the different tasks and duties of a dog control officer.
July 27th – Bats with Cornell Cooperative Extension Chautauqua County
For our last Tales & Tails, Educator Molly Brown will teach you all about bats and why they are so
important. After learning about bat conservation, have fun decorating bat houses that you get to take
home

Tails & Tales is the theme for this year’s festivities and the inspiration behind all of our summer reading events and activities, including our Story Times!

We will have 3 different in-person story time sessions for the month of July.

-Tuesday, July 6th from 7-7:30pm

-Saturday, July 17th with 2 different times; 10:30-11am & 1-1:30pm

Stories will revolve around different animal species and environments, along with different fairytale themes. Attending one of these meetings will also give you the chance to mark off one of your Bingo squares for your Bingo sheet that can be turned in at the end of our Summer Reading Program.

Book Discussions:

Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Black Leopard, Red Wolf by James Marlon

                *Meeting Date: Thursday, July 29th at 2:30pm

We have partnered with Bag & String Wine Merchants to bring you a 10% off the retail price of 1 bottle of wine. To receive this coupon all you have to do is attend one of our book discussions in July and at the end of the meetings you will be handed the coupon.

Books for the discussions are now available at the library to be checked out.

Will we have an assortment of activity sheets that can be found at the front desk (ex. word scramble, word search, crossword puzzle etc.)

We will have two ways for everyone to participate to enter for a chance of one of our Summer Reading prizes!

Option 1: We will have 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes to those that read/log their minutes the most within their age bracket.

Option 2: Take home a Tails & Tales Bingo sheet and fill it out as you go, making sure to turn it in before the end of our programming. There will be two different bingo sheets, one for children and one for teens and adults. All will be entered and drawn from for 1 grand prize winner.

There are two ways you can register:

Option 1: Come to our front desk during our operating hours and sign-up, pledging your commitment to participate with us this summer. You can also request reading logs to track your minutes.
